ARTHOR von BLOMBERG is an accomplished drummer, actor, media host, and producer. But most of all, he is a musician who believes that the purpose of music is to communicate and make it easier for people to understand each other.
Von BLOMBERG started drumming at the age of nine and was lucky enough to study with some of the best first-generation jazz teachers, including Al Miller, Fred Gruber, and Jim Chapin.
As a young drummer, ARTHOR demonstrated an innate talent that compelled him to begin playing professionally before he was out of his teens. Simultaneously, he began to explore the New York-based music business while studying recording engineering and business law.
In 1974, von BLOMBERG met film and music entrepreneur Robert Stigwood, an extremely successful manager about to start his own record label. Sensing that von BLOMBERG had a powerful combination of raw talent and good intentions, Stigwood appointed von BLOMBERG to run the Artists and Repertoire (A&R) management and publishing divisions of RSO Records.
During his tenure at RSO, von BLOMBERG worked with Eric Clapton, the Bee Gees, Alvin Lee, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also recorded with John Stewart, Jack Bruce, Andy Gibb, and Steve Kipner, for whom he produced one of the first-ever rock videos in 1977.
As head of A&R at RSO Records, von BLOMBERG discovered and signed the popular 1970s band Player, which graced the RSO label with three gold and two platinum albums. In conjunction with his role at RSO, von BLOMBERG worked on the films Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Tommy, and the 1978 pop culture film phenomenon, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
When RSO was absorbed by Polydor Records (as an independent label under the PolyGram Group umbrella), von BLOMBERG continued to work with artists including French composer Jean-Michel Jarre, English mod revival/punk rock band The Jam, English rock band 10cc, jazz legend Armando Anthony “Chick” Corea, James Brown, Gloria Gaynor, U.S. pop duo Phillips / MacLeod, and a joint venture with jazz-funk/disco duo Roy Ayers & Wayne Henderson.
In the early 1990s, von BLOMBERG discovered, developed, managed, and produced the band LAPD (“Love and Peace, Dude”), which later rebranded as the “new metal” supergroup, KoЯn. Reuniting with KoЯn members in the mid-2000s, von BLOMBERG helped document the band’s early history for a special DVD released in 2008.
In the late 2000s, von BLOMBERG decided it was time to return to his jazz-oriented roots as a drummer and left the business side of the music industry to begin performing again. It was then he developed the concept of his live Gene Krupa Story and Show project, a live big band swing show honoring the life story and musical achievements of the world’s most famous drummer, Gene Krupa.
Dr. Gene H. Krupa, nephew and Godson of Gene Krupa, and his wife Gail are so happy with how the Gene Krupa Story Live Music Show presents their namesake that they have honored ARTHOR von BLOMBERG with the ongoing rights to produce and perform the show all over the world.
Dr. Gene H. Krupa (nephew of Gene Krupa and Krupa family spokesperson) and his wife Gail Krupa, attended ARTHOR von BLOMBERG’s production of the Gene Krupa Story Live Show at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Fort Myers, FL.
Dr. Gene and Gail were kind enough to provide the statement of appreciation and support as pictured; the statement appeared in the printed show program for the 2011 American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) benefit show at the Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The benefit, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN at FightCancer.org) raised over $10,000 for the organization.
